When you hear “tres leches,” your mind might conjure images of a light, fluffy, and delicious tres leches (three milk) cake. So, will Tres Leches strain give you a light and sweet high, then?

This strain results from the crossing of two famous marijuana strains, but is Tres Leches just as notable as its lineage?

Tres Leches History and Genetics

Tres Leches is a sativa-dominant hybrid weed strain with 70 percent sativa and 30 percent indica. The two legendary parent strains of Tres Leches are Koolato and Cookies and Cream (also called Cookies ‘n Cream or Cookies & Cream).

Koolato was initially cultivated by The Vault Seed Bank. It’s a cross between Gelato #33, GSC (Girl Scout Cookies) and Face on Fire. Smoking or dabbing with Koolato gives you a relaxed, euphoric high as you taste the fruity citrus flavor and aroma.

Cookies and Cream, initially developed by Exotic Genetix, is also a hybrid strain and a cross between an unknown GSC phenotype and Starfighter. This strain is sweet vanilla and nutty in flavor.

You’ll feel happy and airy with a light dose of Cookies and Cream, but increase the dosage if you want to hit the sack early.

The cross between Koolato and Cookies and Cream results in a strain with energetic, creative, and mood-boosting effects and an aromatic floral profile.

The Tres Leches plant yields deep mossy-green buds with purple undertones, thick snowy trichomes, and orange pistils.

Tres Leches Terpene Profile

The terpenes in Tres Leches give the strain its unique flavor and aroma. While it shares similarities with its famous parents, Tres Leches offers something unique.

Various terpenes are present in the strain. The most dominant ones are limonene, caryophyllene, and myrcene. Other Tres Leches terpenes include carene, pinene, geraniol, linalool, bisabolol, and terpineol.

Here is a brief summary of how these terpenes contribute to the overall flavor profile of Tres Leches:

  • Limonene and carene: citrus flavor
  • Caryophyllene: woodsy, sweet, and spicy aroma
  • Myrcene: herbal, spicy, and earthy aroma
  • Pinene: forest and pine notes
  • Geraniol: sweet rose and peach aroma
  • Linalool: floral, lavender notes
  • Bisabolol: earthy, woodsy, and floral notes
  • Terpineol: smokey, floral, pine, and citrusy aroma

Thus, the overall terpene profile of Tres Leches is sweet. You’ll get a floral lavender and cinnamon taste sharply contrasting with tangy citrus.

As you inhale the smoke, enjoy the creamy, buttery aroma similar to a tres leches cake, a traditional Latin American dessert that’s soaked in heavy cream, evaporated milk, and condensed milk. It’s like you’re transported to the comfort and sweetness of a bakery.

Tres Leches Potency

Tres Leches is quite a potent sativa-dominant strain.

If you are a newbie to cannabis, an average tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) content of 20 to 26 percent may be a bit too much. The strain contains about 0.38 to 0.64 percent cannabidiol (CBD).

Tres Leches Effects

The cannabinoid content in the Tres Leches strain produces a variety of effects.

Stoners say they feel creative, talkative, and relaxed, but the strain doesn’t make them lazy and attached to their couch. Instead, it’s best to smoke Tres Leches before you need to be productive, making the strain ideal for daytime use and when you need a mood and energy boost.

With its CBD content, Tres Leches may also help if you suffer from anxiety and depression, as the strain relaxes the nervous system and calms the mind.
