How To Make CBD Bath Bombs
Adding a bath bomb to a tub of hot water is like taking a bubble bath for adults. Of course, it's fun to watch it dissolve, but it is also extremely relaxing to soak in it after a stressful day. To take your bathing ritual to the next level, CBD bath bombs are a great choice. These can be bought in specialty shops or online, however, if you’re feeling creative, you can also make them at home.
What Is CBD?
Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the two main cannabinoids that exist in cannabis. While the other one (THC) is known for its psychoactive effects, CBD is non-psychoactive and is regularly touted for its health benefits. CBD can come in a number of forms and coexists with THC and other cannabinoids within cannabis flower and products derived from the flower such as pills, tinctures, and edibles.
CBD oil can also be derived from hemp, which lacks the psychoactive effects associated with THC in marijuana. When choosing a type of CBD oil, look for one extracted using CO2. This will ensure you are using the purest oil that is free from solvents and contaminants.
CBD Bath Bombs Benefits
CBD oil has a number of health benefits. People with arthritis or achy joints/muscles find that CBD helps relieve inflammation when rubbed on the skin. Even in marijuana wary states, CBD oil is often recommended for patients suffering from severe seizures. And, CBD has psychological benefits too, as it can reduce anxiety and promote relaxation.
Bath bombs are almost synonymous with relaxation. They are often infused with relaxing essential oils like lavender, vanilla, or rose as well as Epsom salt to help ease muscle tension. Combining CBD oil with bath bombs is a great choice after a long day when one or the other just won’t cut it.
What You’ll Need
Despite how luxurious bath bombs feel, CBD bath bombs only take a handful of ingredients that you likely already have around the house. This CBD bath bombs recipe is simple to follow and makes bath bombs in less than 12 hours. To make 4 round bath bombs, you will need:
Equipment
- Medium bowl
- Small bowl
- Whisk
- Silicone soap mold (this can come in any size, but we suggest a mold to create 4 spheres)
Dry Ingredients
- 8 ounces baking soda
- 4 ounces Epsom salt
- 4 ounces cornstarch
- 4 ounces citric acid (dry powder)
Wet Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons coconut oil
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 teaspoon CBD oil
- 12 drops essential oils (we suggest lavender or vanilla if you’re looking to relax)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- Food coloring (optional, but fun!)
How To Make CBD Bath Bombs
First, mix the dry ingredients together in a medium bowl. In a smaller bowl, whisk together the wet ingredients, adding them together in the order listed. Your coconut oil should be melted or softened to make whisking easier. You might need to experiment a bit with your food coloring to get your desired color. Add more than you think you’ll need since the final product will be a bit duller in color.
Next, add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients slowly. You don’t want to add them together all at once, as this will set off the reaction that makes bath bombs fizz. Once the wet and dry ingredients are combined, you should have a semi-wet powder. Scoop your ingredients into your molds, one side at a time. After scooping, pack in the mixture by firmly pressing down with the spoon.
Place the two halves of the mold on top of each other so the mixture will fuse together. You may need to add a little more mixture to make the halves stick together. Let the molds sit overnight to dry. The next day, remove the spheres from the mold by gently pressing on the outsides of the silicone mold.
Now, it’s time to run the water, drop a CBD bath bomb into the tub, and enjoy a relaxing, CBD-infused bath. You’ve earned it!
